NHS Health Check
If you are aged between 40 and 74 then you are entitled to a free NHS health check every 5 years (not more often). These are performed by the healthcare assistants at the practice. It can tell you whether you’re at higher risk of getting certain health problems, such as:
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- Kidney disease
- Stroke
The check is for people who are aged 40 to 74 who do not already have any of the following:
- Heart disease
- Chronic kidney disease
- Diabetes
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Atrial fibrillation
- Transient ischaemic attack
- Inherited high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia)
- Heart failure
- Peripheral arterial disease
- Stroke
If it is more than 5 years since you last had your blood pressure checked then contact the practice to request a NHS health check.
Prostate Cancer Blood Test (PSA)
Men aged 50y and over may ask for a prostate cancer blood test at their NHS Health check. Please look at the link below for more information about the test.
If you would like this additional test then it is very important that you do not ejaculate or undertake vigorous exercise in the 2 days leading up to your appointment as this can affect the result.
Please inform the healthcare assistant at the time of your appointment that you want a PSA included.
