Cervical screening results

From 24 March, the NHS Cervical Screening Programme will start making results that require referral to colposcopy available through the NHS App.

If your result is normal, you’ll receive it securely in the app. You’ll still get a letter in the post if you don’t have the app, or if more tests are needed.

Digital‑first communications will first appear as an NHS App notification:

  • For results requiring referral to colposcopy, if the NHS App message isn’t read within 24 hours, a letter will be sent as a failsafe.
  • For all other communications, if the NHS App message isn’t read within 72 hours, a letter will be sent as a failsafe.
  • Some participants may also receive an SMS notification.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Download the NHS App
  2. Turn on notifications
